JOB DESCRIPTION 1

The tasks a Hand Embroider, General is expected to perform include:

  • Making decorative designs on fabrics and other materials by hand, using needle and thread

  • Stitching a variety of flat stitches, loop stitches and knotted stitches

  • Tracing the design on fabric/material to be embroidered, if required

 

WORK ENVIRONMENT 1, 2

  • It is a bench job

  • Need not handle a team

  • Local travelling is not a part of this job role 

  • Part-time work and contractual jobs are available 

  • Work from home option is available

Working hours

  • Organizations usually work for 5/6 days a week for 8/9 hours everyday. This may vary from organization to organization

  • Shift system is not available

  • Overtime may be involved

  • Being self-employed is also an option. In this case, the working hours and days will be flexible

EDUCATIONAL QUALIFICATIONS AND TRAINING 1

  • Preferably, 5th 

 

KEY COMPETENCIES 1

  • Understanding of different kind of fabrics like cotton, silk, velvet, crape, etc.

  • Knowledge of different types of embroidery stitches like cross stitch, French knot stitch, bullion knot stitch, etc.

  • Familiarity with needle work and thread work

  • Knowledge of various sewing techniques

  • Knowledge of operating different embroidery machines

  • Knowledge of beading, quilting, etc.

 

DESIRABLE COMPETENCIES 1

  • Training in sewing operations

  • Ability to work in teams
