JOB DESCRIPTION 1

The tasks a Fashion Designer is expected to perform include:

  • Developing fashion design briefs

  • Managing the development of design concept

  • Conducting market research and trend analysis

  • Creating prototype design

  • Evaluating the sample and documentation of prototype

 

WORK ENVIRONMENT 1, 2

  • It is a desk job

  • Need not handle a team

  • Working is 8/9 hours everyday for 5/6 days a week. This may vary from organization to organization

EDUCATIONAL QUALIFICATIONS AND TRAINING 1

  • Preferably, 12th pass

 

KEY COMPETENCIES 1

  • Knowledge of garment construction techniques and processes

  • Knowledge of how to create design by hand sketches or Computer Aided Design (CAD)

  • Detailed knowledge of different range of fabrics

  • Knowledge of the cost involved in making an apparel

  • Knowledge of sale ability of a product designed

  • Knowledge of types of fabrics that require stitching by hand or machine

  • Knowledge of sewing and pattern-making techniques

  • Well-versed with trends relating to fabrics, colours and shapes

  • Competent in using illustration software CorelDraw, Illustrator, Photoshop, etc.

 

DESIRABLE COMPETENCIES

  • Certification course in Fashion Design

  • Ability to think creatively

  • Ability to forecast trends and style

 

 

CAREER PROGRESSION PATH

Trainee → Assistant Designer → Associate Designer → Fashion Designer → Senior Designer → Creative Director → VP of Design

EXPECTED EARNINGS

  • For new entrants – Rs 14,000 to Rs 20,000 per month

  • For candidates with experience – Rs 30,000 to Rs 60,000 per month

REQUIRED WORK EXPERIENCE

Generally, 1 - 2 years of work experience/internship in apparel field (either in boutique or an apparel manufacturing company)
