Early Childhood Care and Education- ECCE

Job Description

Early Childhood Care and Education (ECCE) is globally recognized as a critical intervention that lays a strong foundation for lifelong learning and holistic development. It represents the first step in the educational continuum and, when effectively implemented, significantly enhances children's preparedness for primary schooling, promotes school retention, and supports sustained learning outcomes.

The National Policy on ECCE (2013) underscores the importance of early childhood education, reflecting the growing national and international recognition of the formative nature of the early years. Ensuring quality in ECCE programs remains a key concern, particularly with regard to providing developmentally appropriate, age-specific, and child-friendly learning experiences.

This course has been carefully designed to orient learners towards understanding the diverse learning and developmental needs of young children, recognizing that these needs may vary across different social, cultural, and contextual settings. It emphasizes the vital role of nutrition, health, and safety in supporting children's overall growth and well-being.

Through this program, learners will gain insights into creating responsive and inclusive learning environments that address both situational and developmental requirements of children. The course also aims to foster respect for diversity and reinforce the importance of inclusive education as a cornerstone of equitable early childhood development.

Quality ECCE is the issue of ensuring adequate quality in the programme, particularly from the perspective of making it developmentally and age appropriate and child-friendly. This course has been designed to orient learners to the sensitivity required to understand the early learning and developmental needs of young children and how they may vary in different contexts. It also addresses the essential role of nutrition, health and safety of children for holistic development. Learners will learn about appropriate ways necessary to provide a responsive environment to meet the situation-specific as well as stage related needs of children. This programme also aims to prepare learners to value diversity and recognize the significance of inclusive education.
